Mixed Chocolates

We are in the season when people give and receive boxes of chocolates of every variety and price range. It seems like everyone has their favorites and there is no unifying opinion of what is best and what isn't. Just in the last couple of days I overhead two conversations at work about what is the best overall mixed chocolates. Interestingly, both separate discussions came up with two different conclusions.

Of course I normally have an opinion about such matters and my opinion usually doesn't follow the norm. I feel that any true mixed-variety box, no matter who manufactures it, will contain those pieces you enjoy as well as those pieces which you can barely stand. To me I enjoy the 'good' pieces from a less popular brand more than the 'bad' pieces from a popular brand, so it really boils down to what particular piece you get stuck with (especially if the pieces are not marked). So, any brand of mixed chocolates is only as good as it's worst piece... especially if someone else has eaten all the good stuff before you have your gambling chance!
