People who focus on the material normally see physical wealth as a sign of being blessed by God. This fallacy is so prevalent that it was brought up in Christ's teachings on various occasions with direct and harsh words. Christ taught that to be truly blessed by God is to be rich in spiritual blessings, not the physical! We must remember that physical wealth does not bring us close to God but offers a deterrent which naturally pulls us away from God. When a pastor preaches the 'prosperity doctrine' so prevalent on television, we must assume they are sowing seeds of the false teachers which Christ warned about. We should put into question their other teachings as well.
When we look at the person who is authentically spiritual and close to Christ, that is the person who we must proclaim, "they have been truly blessed!"
