If life has no purpose, then nothingness will follow this life as well. Our actions, no matter how good or bad, really has no purpose since they can not follow us to the grave.
But if life has a meaningful purpose, then there must be a form of heaven or hell to follow this life. Our choices and actions will have an effect on the life to follow.
