Where's Your Mind?

There are three mindsets to use when reading the Bible: (1) the mind of faith, (2) the mind of intellect, and (3) the renewed spirit-led mind. All three have their own strengths, and two have their own weaknesses.

When studying the Bible using the mind of faith, you can become spiritually strengthened and have growth, but if using misguided faith, you can easily branch-off into wrong and improper conclusions. The same thing is true with only using our educated intellect. Though many historical facts, dates, and figures can be learned through research… and applied to the study of God's word, it's also quite easy to misapply this knowledge and reach improper conclusions. In this regard both faith study and intellect study can have similar results if not constrained by the third, and most important mindset… the renewed mind.

The Spirit-led mind is the key factor in studying God's word accurately, properly and most beneficially. It is also the hardest mindset to put your finger on, and is the least understood and most skeptical by the intellect mindset (when it doesn't include the Spirit-led).
